A DARK PROJECT
THE ATMOSPHERE
A DARK PROJECT is imagined as a cinematic pop / synthwave movie soundtrack identity from the 80's built around night, emotion, and elegant retro-futuristic visuals.
A CALL IN THE NIGHT lives in a space between blue haze, pink light, sea reflections, love and intimate nocturnal tension, a world that feels both modern and unmistakably 1980s in spirit.

WORK IN PROGRESS
A growing timeline of the project, from the latest updates back to the very beginning.
This week changed everything.
Behind closed doors, A DARK PROJECT reached a turning point.
Something important happened, something that will soon take the project into a whole new dimension.
There is still a long road ahead. A lot of work. A lot of details to shape, refine and bring to life.
But one major step has now been crossed.
Perhaps the hardest one. For now, some things are better left unsaid.
But the future of A DARK PROJECT suddenly feels much closer.
The signal is getting stronger.
More soon...
I'm not in the mood for music today, so let's work on the cover artwork instead. Maybe if I can turn the project into a real image, I'll feel more productive next week. Having a visual that truly represents the project will definitely help me create more songs.
I now have four songs. Time to tweak them, adjust things here and there, and improve the production design. But people from all over Europe are telling me how much they like the songs, even my friends' kids. Maybe that is a good sign...?
One more song is done, but it is a sad song, so sad... Who is going to sing that one? Still, it is a beautiful song. I love it. It feels like it could have been lifted straight out of Pretty in Pink, the 1986 film directed by John Hughes. So 80's!
I am using my vacation in France to meet a special friend and play him my demos. He said they sound like French electro... 'But man, I am French,' I told him! lol
Two songs are done. Well, there is still a lot to do, but the structure, lyrics, and melodies are there. Later this year, I will start looking for a female singer.
It is impossible to make a proper basic mix with headphones. After calling a few friends in Finland and Sweden, all geniuses in recording and mixing, I decided to go with Yamaha HS5 monitors. They are good monitoring speakers, small enough to fit on my mini desk. But my goal is to get Genelec speakers once that becomes possible. For the moment, I have realized I also need stands for these speakers.
It took me a few days after Hede passed away. I now need to learn a modern DAW, mine is Logic Pro, and understand how to install and set up those virtual instruments.
Today is a sad day. I heard that my friend Hede tragically passed away at home. He was a wonderful lighting designer. We toured so much together with the Swedish industrial metal bands PAIN and Hypocrisy. I am really sad...
Oh gosh, I bought this studio controller, but there is no sound library in it. I should have known beforehand that I would need to buy virtual instruments for this keyboard. All right, let us buy some!
Holy moly, after 26 years away from synthesizers, I just bought a new one: a beautiful control surface from Native Instruments. Now all I need to do is learn how to get sound out of it and understand how a modern DAW, Digital Audio Workstation, works, so I can start having fun again. As I said, my musical journey stopped 26 years ago...
